Yerba Bruja is a medicinal plant that can survive the most hostile of conditions.

It is a metaphor for the multi-generational survival of members of the African and indigenous diasporas.

Join us at 7:00 PM EDT on June 10, for a new moon, healing, and storytelling with the premiere of Yerba Bruja, a transformative film that will screen on this web page through midnight on June 25.

Yerba Bruja is curated and produced by Jasmin Agosto, Sageseeker Productions, and in partnership with Long Wharf Theatre. The film will feature collaborative performances by:

Meet the Cast

HABEN MARIA (she/they)

Haben Maria (she/they) Hartford-raised Haben Maria is a creator and licensed therapist dedicated to dismantling intergenerational trauma through voice and storytelling.


Colleen Ndemeh is a multidisciplinary performance artist, activist and cultural worker of Kpelle (Liberian) and Euro-American descent. ty-centered practice.


Paul Bryant Hudson (he/him) is a New Haven based singer-songwriter. Grounded in identity, Paul’s music honors the sacredness of black ancestry and explores the vastness of the Black experience.

ZVLU (he/him)

Zvlu is a Jamaican-born, Hartford-based producer who has produced for many locally based artists and many artists abroad.


Chicago native and New Haven, CT resident, Yexandra “Yex” Diaz wears many hats. She is an Environmental Educator, Independent Facilitator, Lactation Counselor, Birth and Death Doula who serves her community as an advocate.

CH’VARDA (she/her)

Ch’Varda (Jazlyn Council) is a DJ/Producer out of Waterbury, CT. Her art is a reflection of her personal journey and experiences that she wishes to share with the world.


JASMIN AGOSTO (she/they)

Jasmin Agosto is the founder of Sageseeker Productions, an event/experience curation company based in Hartford, CT that centers Black womxn, womxn of color, non-binary folks, and the queer POC community.

MERCURY (they/them)

Set Designer / Spirit Guide

Mercury is a Hartford born & raised artist that has been based out of NYC, Western Mass, and currently back in Connecticut. Mercury’s current practice uses performance & installation to explore the etymological boundaries of western art.


Set Choreographer / Spirit Guide

Jeanika Browne-Springer is the Development & Marketing Manager at Hartford Performs, an arts education non profit that partners with the Hartford school district, to bring teaching artists into the classroom and train educators in arts integration strategies.


Director of Moving Image & Editor

Nivia Easterling is the owner of the multimedia company Nivia Visuals Marketing Group based in Hartford, CT. Nivia is a video freelance producer, director, camera operator, and editor, with 8 years of experience specializing in video editing, HD & 4K videography, script writing, and marketing.


Director of Photography

Maza Monteiro Rey is a portrait, event, and experimental photographer who loves to weave stories with light and shadow. She lives in New Haven with her partner Eric, dog, two cats and has solid aspirations for future farm life and tiny home living.


Lighting & Sound Designer

Mashario Brown is a live sound and lighting engineer with over 20 years experience. Currently operating under United Audio Productions, he and his team specializes in small to medium sized events in the Greater Hartford, CT area but also work on projects from California to Jamaica.
