Long Wharf Theatre’s vibrancy doesn’t just reside in its rehearsal halls or on its stages. It lives amongst the greater New Haven community, in the people who attend our performances, and contribute to our greater good. Long Wharf Theatre’s various events – a wide array of opening nights, talks, working rehearsals, and after hours functions – become a veritable who’s who, uniting beloved patrons, great thinkers, business and political leaders, and members of the artistic community in a lively and fun conversation surround the excitement of the theatre. “Scene at LWT” captures snapshots of the convivial spirit present at every event, a comfortable and welcoming ambiance for everyone who becomes part of the Long Wharf Theatre experience.
OPENING NIGHT OF THE UNDERPANTS
Palpable excitement accompanied the opening night of Steve Martin’s The Underpants on Wednesday, October 23, the first show of Long Wharf Theatre’s 49th season. Newly minted board chair Sandy Stoddard thanked our production sponsor Better ITS for their generous contribution to Long Wharf Theatre. Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein gave a brief talk at the pre-show party about the play, which despite its ostensible silliness deals with the rather serious issues of male/female relationships and the transience of fame. After a raucously funny performance, the audience repaired to a post-show reception at Brazi’s with the cast and artistic team. All in all, it was a stellar kickoff to the season.
