ABOUT THE SHOW

Seven unlikely heroes overcome unspeakable odds, defeat and evade monsters to come seek their own unicorn here in New Haven. Join our ensemble in their search for hope—for a unicorn in America. Based on the true stories of refugees resettled in New Haven by IRIS.

AFTER THE SHOW

We’re excited to announce our partnership with Sanctuary Kitchen, who will be providing light fare after the show!

Sanctuary Kitchen is a program of CitySeed, in partnership with a team of community volunteers. Sanctuary Kitchen seeks to highlight the unique skills of refugees and immigrants in economically viable culinary pursuits that provide personal income potential while promoting their culinary traditions, cultures, and stories to improve understanding and appreciation throughout our community.
Sanctuary Kitchen hosts a series of events, including Cooking Classes, Supper Clubs, and catering – all led by refugee and immigrant cooks from Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Iraq, Mexico, Syria and Sudan.

NEWCOMER PLAY PROJECT

Long Wharf Theatre is in its first season working in partnership with Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS). The Newcomer Play Project seeks to deepen the integration process for immigrants and refugees in Long Wharf’s hometown. It also helps IRIS empower their clients to become active citizens by providing facilitated access to new relationships and experiences. This program engages a population that frequently feels like an outsider at mainstream institutions and provides them with a physical and imaginative space where “otherness” is celebrated for its inherent value in sharing and understanding the human story. Their cultural identities will be reflected through personal retellings shared with our entire community.
