Emma Joy Hill is the Interim Director of Marketing & Communications at Long Wharf Theatre, where she leads strategic marketing initiatives, audience engagement, and brand storytelling. Alongside her work in marketing, Emma is an accomplished playwright, performer, dramaturg, and theatre artist whose practice explores the intersections of art, activism, and human rights. Her writing engages deeply with questions of sexual violence, grotesque performance, and devised theatre, using storytelling as a vehicle for cultural and social change. Her work has been supported by organizations such as the Bushwick Starr (Pet Project Grant), Foundation of the Arts Playwriting Grant, and the Natural Resources Conservation Academy, where she was commissioned to develop work addressing climate change. She is a two-time Semi-Finalist for The O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and a Semi-Finalist for Yale’s MFA Playwriting Program. Emma was accepted into Columbia University’s MFA Playwriting Program in 2022 and holds a BA in Theatre Studies/Playwriting from the University of Connecticut. Emma’s work has been developed or presented with Concord Theatricals, The Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival, The Brick, Women’s Theatre Festival, 59E59 Theaters, Echo Theatre Dallas, Studio 570, Theatre L’Acadie, Cinnamon Summer Series, Bated Breath Theatre Company, Capital Classics, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Jorgensen Theatre, and Out of Chaos Theatre in the UK, among others.
