Policies and Procedures


“Taking part in Long Wharf Theatre Studio has made me a better student and a better actress.”

These Long Wharf Theatre acting and directing classes for kids and adults, taught by professional theatre artists, will train students to collaborate, problem-solve, and imagine.

LONG WHARF THEATRE STUDIO STAFF

ANNIE DIMARTINO

Annie DiMartino

A native of Seattle, Ms. DiMartino recently received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton where her emphasis was acting.

While living in California, Annie performed in and around the Los Angeles and Orange County areas in roles that include: Hanna Jarvis (Arcadia), Frida Rivera Kahlo (Rocky and Diego), Agnes (A Bright Room Called Day), and Anne (Balm in Gilead).

Annie also originated the role of Dorothy Wordsworth in Gasmere, a play that took her to the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York.

Annie has been nominated for the LA Weekly Awards as well as the OC Theatre Awards for Best Featured Actress in a drama, and next fall her voice will be heard as the seductress, Destra, in the animated movie Prodigal Son, produced by Gener8ion Entertainment.

Ms. DiMartino is on staff at New Haven's Educational Center for the Arts, where she teaches Musical Theatre. As Resident Teaching Artist for Long Wharf Theatre, Annie teaches drama at Amistad Academy and Seymour Middle School.


JACOB STOEBEL, EDUCATION RESIDENT

Jim Clark

Mr. Stoebel is excited to join Long Wharf Theatre as the Education Resident this year.  A native of Northern California, Mr. Stoebel recently completed his B.A. in Theatre with honors from Pitzer College in Claremont, California.

During his time there, he studied and participated in directing, acting, dramaturgy, and stage management.   For his senior project, he directed Rocket Man by Steven Dietz.  He also trained extensively in corporeal mime, the acting technique of Etienne Decroux.  

Mr. Stoebel has also worked extensively as an acting teacher and director for high school students, working to enliven and enrich teens’ lives through the power of theatre.  Professionally, Jacob has interned for the San Francisco Mime Troupe, touring an original political comedy through the San Francisco Bay Area, and as assistant director for Horla Theatre Company in London.



JIM CLARK

Jim Clark

A member of the Long Wharf Theatre Education staff since 1999, Mr. Clark holds a degree in Arts and General Studies from Charter Oak State College.

He is actively involved with all aspects of educational programming at Long Wharf, from assisting in the implementation of programs to the creation and design of Teacher Information Packets.

Mr. Clark is also on staff at New Haven's Educational Center for the Arts, teaching Musical Theatre in the music department.

Jim has been associated with the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Fairfield University, ECA, The Foote School Summer Theatre, Chancel Opera Company and the New Haven Ballet, taking on numerous roles including teaching artist, actor, director and stage manager.

2006 - 2007 POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

ATTENDANCE

Adult/Teen Courses:

Attendance at all classes is highly recommended. Should you find that you need to miss a class, please call Jim Clark at (203) 787-4284, ext. 294, no later than 4 pm on the day of your class. There will be no refunds for missed classes.

Private Acting Lessons:

Private Acting Lessons are held on Friday afternoons after 3:30 pm, and on Saturday mornings.

If you have purchased all 8 hours of instruction at one time, you have 10 weeks to complete your lessons. Please set your schedule with Ms. DiMartino at your first session. Registration does not carry over between sessions.

Students paying for Private Acting Lessons by class must give at least 24 hours notice to schedule. These sessions are subject to room and teacher availability.

To reschedule your Private Lesson:

For Friday students: 1 week's notice is required.

For Saturday students: 24 hours notice is required.

To cancel your Private Lesson:

24 hours notice is required to cancel a session. If you do not call to cancel your session, you will be charged the full amount for that session.

TUITION PAYMENT

Long Wharf Theatre Studio accepts cash, check (made out to Long Wharf Theatre), Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Adult/Teen Courses:

Tuition is due by the first day of class. However, a registration form is required to guarantee your place.

Private Acting Lessons:

Option 1: Students may purchase 8 hours of instruction at one time. Payment is due by your first session.

Option 2: Students may elect to pay per session. Payment is required at each session.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS

Minimum class size: Courses must have a minimum enrollment of 5 people. If a course is cancelled due to failure to meet this minimum, Long Wharf Theatre Studio will refund any payments made.

Canceling your enrollment:

You may choose to cancel your enrollment in Long Wharf Theatre Studio at anytime. Long Wharf Theatre reserves the right to retain a portion of monies paid according to the following guidelines:

After 1 class: Your tuition (minus the cost of 1 class) will be refunded to you. You must call before the next class to receive this offer.

By the 3rd class: You will receive a 50% refund.

After the 3rd class: No refunds will be offered.

In case of inclement weather:

If New Haven Public Schools are closed due to weather, Long Wharf Theatre Studio classes will be cancelled. Please tune to WTNH Channel 8 for closing information. If you are not sure of class cancellation, please call Jim Clark at (203) 787-4284, ext. 294.

GENERAL NOTES

Students are expected to come to class prepared. If an instructor feels that a student is not prepared, that student's participation in class will be determined by the individual instructor.

In the past, we have received requests from students for letters of recommendation or confirmation of participation. We are more than happy to accommodate these requests; however, we request that you provide your instruction with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and a written description of the program or purpose requiring your letter.
