FROM THE DESK OF ARTISTIC DIRECTOR GORDON EDELSTEIN

"Until I saw Charlie Newell's production of this musical last year in Chicago, it was a show that I thought I never needed to see again, but under Charlie's incisive and invigorating baton, it seemed like a brand new show.

"I am thrilled to have Charlie come to Long Wharf to continue his work of re-imagining this classic from the musical theatre canon."

THE DESIGN:

Set in a Spanish prison during the Spanish Inquisition, Man of La Mancha tells the story of Don Miguel de Cervantes' prison trial.

Delight in the tale of an idealistic knight who valiantly battled windmill giants. Join Don Quixote and his sidekick Sancho Panza on their quest for hope and honor, as this epic story unfolds in Long Wharf Theatre's intimate space.

THE BACKSTAGE PASS:

La Mancha is an actual province just south of Madrid, Spain, known mainly for its agriculture, and flat, dry landscape. "La Mancha" literally means "the stain."

THE CURTAIN CALL:

Man of La Mancha opened on Broadway at ANTA Washington Square Theatre, New York, November 22, 1965. It won 5 Tony Awards in 1966, including Best Musical.
