GLOBAL HEALTH & THE ARTS is a collaboration between Long Wharf Theatre and Yale University, Global Health & The Arts brings together leaders from science, industry, finance and the arts to examine a pressing global public health issue through their respective and complementary lenses.

Long Wharf Theatre, with its long history of producing world-class, evocative theatre is the perfect location for this unique event, which provides a platform for interdisciplinary discussion and engagement of domains which do not often directly interact.  The setting for Global Health & the Arts takes advantage of the wealth of scholarly, industry and cultural resources found in and around the New Haven region, which is home to a multitude of pharmaceutical, medical device and biotech companies, financial institutions, universities, and of course, Long Wharf Theatre.

Together, Long Wharf Theatre and New Haven provide a rich environment for a profoundly relevant, broad and cutting-edge exploration of critical public health and human issues.  Since 2009, this singularly innovative program has delved into the issues of HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s Disease, Cancer, Mental Illness, and Obesity.  Global Health & the Arts 2014 will address ADDICTION, with a focus on tobacco and on other substances of abuse.

The founder and event chair of Global Health & the Arts is David Scheer, President of Scheer & Company, Inc., a life science firm founded in 1981, with activities in venture capital, corporate strategy, and transactional advisory services.
