
Co-Chair: Kelly Brownell (formerly, Director, Director Yale Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity, now Dean of the School of Public Policy at Duke University). Keynote speakers included Jeffrey Friedman of Rockefeller University, credited as a co-discoverer of the hormone which is critical to energy balance, and weight control – leptin. The roster of speakers included a broad array of thought-leaders with interests in obesity from the standpoint of public policy and public health, along with domain experts in the science behind the addictive aspects of food through to the consequences of obesity such as cancer, cardiovascular, and metabolic disease. The playwright, Laura Jaqmin focused on weight and body image in her new play, January Joiner, which was able to bring the subject to life.
