On January 24 – 25, 2013 Global Health & the Arts: OBESITY AND ITS PUBLIC HEALTH CONSEQUENCES will take place, in conjunction with Long Wharf’s production of Laura Jaqmin’s January Joiner. The event will take a comprehensive look at all aspects of the obesity challenge—environmental, genetic, and biological causes; treatment, prevention, and the catastrophic relationship between obesity and many other diseases—heart disease, diabetes, cancer, liver disease, even Alzheimer’s. Co-chairs David Scheer and Kelly Brownell are reaching far and wide for the best speakers from the scientific and public health communities who, combined with the experience of the play and several artistic interludes throughout the day, will provide a comprehensive, inspiring, and unusual perspective on one of our major global health threats.
