Education and Humanities programs are designed to enhance the appreciation and understanding of Long Wharf’s productions and theatre in general. Long Wharf is committed to sharing the theatre's wondrous ability to engage students of all ages and backgrounds.
Long Wharf is dedicated to serving as a cultural and academic resource to the community. Expanding and developing our programs serves as an affirmation of the power of the theatre arts to educate, nurture, and expand young minds and hearts.
Education Programs
The programming provides for a comprehensive, interactive investigation of one or more plays during the course of the season. Teachers, professional theatre artists, and Long Wharf staff work together to develop material that fits within the various schools academic requirements while utilizing the wonderful resource that is Long Wharf Theatre.
The goals of the programs are:
- Engage teachers and students in the study of dramatic texts and theatrical productions.
- Integrate plays from the season into classroom curriculum.
- Help students develop critical thinking skills, as well as improve their reading, writing, and communications skills.
- Encourage students to articulate their own response to theatrical productions.
- Introduce students, through theater, to a variety of cultures, traditions, places, historical periods, and ideas.
- Provide students and teachers contact with theater artists.
- Provide the basis for a life-long appreciation and enjoyment of the theater and other art forms.
