Youth Ambassadors is a new community engagement initiative geared toward building a lasting relationship with local youth that engages them in the art of theatre through performance and inside perspective, as well as laying the foundation for a return to Long Wharf Theatre in later life. We currently have ten Youth Ambassadors from local schools.
After Youth Ambassador Emma Nanamaker saw Shirley Valentine, she had this to share…
After seeing this show, it really makes me appreciate the women in my family. My mother, grandmothers, and aunts have worked so hard their entire life to make their men and children happy. I understand now how stressful it is in a family situation, and how every woman needs a break. I am truly grateful for how they put up with everyone! Looking back on the performance, the main message that I received from it, and I will hold true through the rest of my life, is that you have to live your life to the fullest. You don’t want to wake up 40 years from now and realize you haven’t accomplished any of your goals, or followed any of your dreams. The show has inspired me to live my life as best as I can, and is a must-see for students and adults.
Emma Nanamaker is a Freshman at Guilford High School.
